New House Districts 51 and 52

Redistricting resulted in the current House District 52 being split into new HD 51 and new HD 52.  The mountain communities and residents above the city of Sandy boundaries will be in new HD 52, which now spreads all the way through the Dalles to the east.  Boring is also in HD 52.  HD 51 includes Sandy, Estacada, Canby and some other rural areas.  A small piece of HD 18 (south to Mollala and east toward the mountain) also includes a few of our Oregon Trail Democrat members.  The new districts do not meet Oregon law which requires that political subdivisions not be split (schools and other special districts like fire and water).  But the legislature passed the new maps regardless of that requirement as Oregon Trail School District is split into 3 House districts and Sandy Fire is split into 2.  The intent of the redistricting was to include Mosier and The Dalles and remove Sandy due to having to keep population numbers intact to meet average House district numbers statewide.
